In the Beginning God…

In the beginning God… Genesis 1:1

Elohim:

  • Divine,
  • Creator,
  • Powerful

No stars, no sun, no moon—complete darkness. And then Elohim spoke. An explosion of light, beyond all imagination. Word by word, He created the Universe, our  small Earth, Life.

Light, out of nothingness. Breath from dust. Miraculous,  but what does it mean for us today?

For Elohim, every birth is an “in the beginning God,” moment. Psalm 139:13 says God created us in our mother’s womb. Because of science, we know every person is a weaving together of the mother and father’s DNA, but who is the Weaver?

You were fashioned uniquely by Elohim. The miracle we point to in the by-hand molding of male and female in the Garden of Eden is no greater than the Weaver’s work in your creation. No one else has your face, your personality, your being. You are a remarkable person. If we look at ourselves through Elohim’s eyes, we see masterpieces, woven in His image.

Every sunrise is an “in the beginning God” day. Before our minds stir and our eyes open, Elohim knows our paths (Jeremiah 1:5). Every circumstance we will face is known by Him, before our first step.

What would my day look like if it were an “in the beginning Sherry…” day? What would yours? No crises at work. No surprise exams. No family drama. Everything would be tranquil and worry-free. I’d fall into bed with a smile on my face and a completed to-do list lying on my bedside table.

But what would I have learned about God? Would I have experienced a new facet of His grace? A deeper understanding of His love? My mind, and sometimes my heart, is captured by the here and now. My perspective is on the short-term.

When God designs my day, His work is in my heart. He uses my circumstances to draw me closer to Him, rather than dictate them to my liking. God’s perspective is on the long-term.

With each new day, Elohim longs to recreate us in the image of Jesus.(2 Corinthians 5:17). Unique reflections of His Son. Matchless in our gifts, in our compassion, and in our expressions of Him. We are each as He distinct spiritually as we are physically and emotionally.

An “in the beginning, God” day is filled with His creativeness, His spoken power, and His transformation.

Today, watch for God’s hands in your life. Ask Him to show you the newness He has put into your heart.

Sherry, I’ve been asking off and on for 5 years – since our move back to Colorado, and I just don’t see much. But thanks for the novel way of thinking about the day, and I will keep praying to recognize His hand.

I understand completely, Pam. We spent a few years in far west Texas because my husband was on “temporary” assignment. He finally realized the only way to get back to our home was to retire. While we lived there, I prayed for understanding but didn’t recognize His hand until it came time to leave. I thought it had been a dry time, but w henI told people I was moving, they began to express what the impact of my witness had been on their lives. I completely missed His work in me and through me.
