Truths for Today:

June, 2010:

The Eagle has Landed!

Picture: Dennis King, April, 2010
He shielded him and cared for him; he guarded him as the apple of his eye, like an eagle that stirs up its nest and hovers over its young, that spreads its wings to catch them and carries them on its pinions. Deuteronomy 32:10-11

I couldn't help but use that title, quoting Neil Armstrong as the lunar module, Eagle, touched down on the moon in July of 1969.

We're all excited in Baytown, TX because a mating pair of bald eagles has taken up residence in a wooded area on the edge of town. Over the past few weeks, we've watched 2 eaglets grow and they are now able to stand on the edge of the nest and flap their wings. Even so, the parents still hover over the nest, tenderly feeding their babies and guarding them from the predators who would love to have a tasty lunch. The eagles' goal is to teach the eaglets the skills they need to survive in the harsh world outside the nest

As I watched them, the beautiful description of God's care for us from Deuteronomy 32 came to mind. Just like these eagles, God shields us from predators lurking nearby. In difficult days, despair and defeat try to move in and devour us but God is faithful to protect us and to shield us with His presence. He strengthens and encourages us with every step we take.

We are apple of his eye. God guards us as though we are His most precious possession – because we are! His love for us is deeper than we can ever imagine. He proves His love for us as He tenderly hovers over us. He never leaves us alone—He is our heavenly Father, with us to sustain us and to meet our every need.

But what if we fall? We sometimes stumble over doubt when days are hard. We often fall to temptation. And yet, we can trust God to catch us and lift us carefully to our feet. His forgiveness is beyond our comprehension and His patience is infinite.

His desire is to walk with us through life. He gives us wisdom to face each day's challenges. He keeps our feet secure when obstacles litter our path. He tenderly carries us when we are too tired to go on.

He is your perfect Father – ever faithful and true. You are His child and He adores you. Trust in Him and rest in His love.
