Seek the Lord!
"Then I will go back to my place until they admit their guilt. And they will
seek my face; in their misery they will earnestly seek me." 6:1 "Come, let us
return to the LORD. He has torn us to pieces but he will heal us; he has
injured us but he will bind up our wounds." Hosea 5:15 – 6:1
I read this passage several days ago and it seemed to jump out at me as though it were in neon lights. Has God ever done that to you? Something you never paid much attention to suddenly hits you with new meaning? He's been bringing it to mind every day, both to cause me to examine myself and to fill me with hope.
"Then I will go back to my place. . . ." God is in His place! He forever sits on the throne. Sovereign. He's forever watchful of us; He never turns His face away from us. He waits for what He knows will happen: we will be convicted of our sins by the Holy Spirit.
"Until they admit their guilt. . . ." See the word "until?" He doesn't say "if they. . ." He doesn't say "I hope they. . ." He says "Until." What a powerful word. He's saying, "They will." As I read this, I was prompted to examine myself and to confess my sins. How often do we skip playfully through our lives, confident we haven't done anything truly wrong? None of the "big" sins, right? As I searched my heart, I realized how sinful my attitudes are, how judgmental I am, and how often I ignore the prompting of the Holy Spirit. Most of the time, no one hears my thoughts—except me and God. He knows I'll repent. The only question is: How long will it be before I acknowledge it?
God holds us in the palm of His hand. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one can snatch them out of my hand. John 10 28. He'll never let go. He'll draw us back to Him, no matter how far we stray. Boy, have I ever strayed in my past—and I probably will in the future. Have you? Are you afraid that, somehow, you've crossed a line and God said, "That's it, you went too far! My mercy is totally gone. My love is withdrawn. You're no longer Mine."
Drink in the truth of God's words: He's still sovereign in your life. He holds you in the palm of His hand. He knows you'll return to Him. No ifs, ands, or buts! Satan cannot trap you. No sin can overpower you. God's power is unimaginable and His love for you is incomprehensible!
"And they will seek my face; in their misery they will earnestly seek me." Many times I've felt so far away, so overwhelmed, that I was afraid I would never find my way back. God assures me I will. He puts inside us a longing to seek Him, to earnestly seek Him. His purpose for the trials and hardships we face in our rebellion is to cause us to know how badly we need Him.
"Come, let us return to the LORD. He has torn us to pieces but he will heal us; he has injured us but he will bind up our wounds." Even so, we must respond. As long as we are in rebellion, God will allow our circumstances to worsen until we fall on our knees before Him. He'll woo us back to Him until we can resist Him no longer. We'll turn to Him and desire to restore our relationship with Him. We can trust Him to heal us and bind up our wounds. For His children, His patience is infinite and His forgiveness is assured. His love and care are with us every moment—we only have to seek it.
Sit before your Father for a few minutes. Let Him reveal your sins to you, not expecting punishment, but knowing He'll come to you immediately with love and forgiveness. He'll heal you; He'll bind your wounds. Allow Him to fill you with a craving to seek Him more. Respond to Him with the joy of knowing you're accepted and treasured. He is your Daddy God and, if you're a believer, His love is unconditional!
For you are a people holy to the LORD your God. Out of all the peoples
on the face of the earth, the LORD has chosen you to be his treasured possession.
Neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to
separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
