And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19
I hope you had a great Christmas. We're steaming on toward January 1, 2010. Can you believe it!!
God gave me several opportunities to rejoice in this holiday season. During the wonderful Christmas Eve candle-light service at our church, I was amazed all over again at the unbelievable blessing God gave us when He sent His Son to walk among us.
It was very cold and windy outside as we walked back to the car after the service. (At least, it was cold for Houston!) As we huddled in the car waiting for heater to warm us, God whispered to my heart, "You are so blessed! You have a coat and shoes, a warm car, and a warm house! So many are spending this Christmas Eve cold, hungry, and alone."
Christmas Day dawned, sunny and cold. One of my daughters and my sister came over to spend the day—what a blessing to be surrounded by family! Because there would just be the 4 of us, we'd decided a week or so before that we'd go out to eat for Christmas dinner. We did that on Thanksgiving and it was a big hit. No cooking and no clean up!
So we hopped in the car and off we went. We went to the place we'd eaten at on Thanksgiving—it was closed. We drove around a bit and realized nothing was open. What to do? Luckily, there were a hodge-podge of leftovers in the refrigerator so we went back home. We laughed as we gathered around a slightly strange Christmas dinner. Again, God whispered to my heart, "You are so blessed! You have enough food in your refrigerator to feed your family of four when there are many whose cupboards are bare."
After dinner, we all snuggled up in the living room to watch "The Muppets Christmas Carol." It's a Christmas tradition at our house—it's great fun if you haven't seen it! I looked around the room at my family's laughing faces and God spoke to me once more. "You are so blessed! You are surrounded by love when so many are alone."
How can we ever grasp God's grace? How can we ever understand His infinite love and marvelous blessings? I challenge you, and myself, to make this New Year's resolution:
I will praise God for the wonderful blessings He gives me—each and every day.
With a heart full of gratitude and eyes that stay focused on Him, 2010 will
indeed be a wonderful New Year!
Love and prayers from my family to yours!
